Design of reconfigurable channel-selective power amplifier

      • In order to meet the demand for miniaturization, integration, low cost, and high performance of modern wireless communication systems, a new reconfigurable power amplifier structure is proposed. The structure is designed with an input matching network, which can be well matched in the 1−3 GHz frequency band. The output matching network is designed by combining reconfigurable technology and filtering matching technology. Different filtering matching circuits are connected by distributed PIN switches to realize efficient amplification characteristics of signals in multi-channel and highly selective output of working frequency band. The power amplifier working at 1.5 GHz, 1.8 GHz, 2.4 GHz, and 2.6 GHz is designed and processed using CGH40010F GaN transistor. The bandwidth is about 200 MHz, and the signal attenuation outside the passband can reach −30 dB. Through the test, the saturation output power of the power amplifier is 40 dBm, the gain is maintained at about 10 dB, and the maximum power added efficiency (PAE) can reach 63%. The measured results are in good agreement with the simulation results. This structure reduces circuit complexity and design difficulty, has high efficiency and selectivity advantages, and provides a feasible scheme for designing a wide-band multifunctional reconfigurable power amplifier.
