湍流大气中部分相干波束的偏振特性研究

Polarization characteristics for a partially coherent beam in atmospheric turbulence

  • 摘要: 基于广义惠更斯-菲涅尔原理,计算了部分相干高斯谢尔模型 (Gaussian-Schell Model, GSM) 光束在湍流大气中传输的交叉谱密度矩阵(Cross-Spectral Density Matrix, CSDM). 假设发射机发出的波束为椭圆偏振光,由CSPM中的各元素来表示的斯托克斯参数得到了湍流中光束的偏振度(Degree of Polarization,DoP),并给出了椭圆率的表达式. 通过Mueller矩阵研究了退偏理论,给出了描述波束退偏状态的退偏指数(Depolarization Index, DI)表达式. 数值分析结果表明:波束波长,源相干长度,初始光斑尺寸,传输距离及湍流强度都会对波束偏振度,椭圆率及退偏指数造成影响. 此研究可在大气光通信领域中应用.
    Abstract: On the basis of the extended Huygens-Fresnel principle, the cross-spectral density matrix (CSDM) of partially coherent Gaussian-Schell model (GSM) beams propagating in atmospheric turbulence is derived. Given that the light emitted from a transmitter is elliptically polarized light, the degree of polarization (DoP) of beams is represented by Stokes parameters expressed by the elements of the CSDM. The expression of the degree of ellipticity is derived. Depolarization theory is studied using a Mueller matrix and the depolarization index (DI) is obtained to describe the depolarized state of beams propagating in the slant atmospheric turbulence. Numerical results show that the factors of the wavelength of beam, source coherence length, light spot size, propagation distance and turbulence level will have impact on the DoP, degree of ellipticity and DI. This study may provide theoretical basis for future applications in the atmospheric optical communication field.
