Abstract:
When strong weather events occur, such as earthquake, typhoon or magnetic storm, the propagation of radio waves can be influenced by the ionospheric disturbances caused by those weather events, leading to a Doppler Frequency Shift of the high-frequency (HF) radio wave. This paper proposes a new type of high integrated HF Doppler detection equipment. After receiving the reflected HF radio wave signal by the HF Doppler receiver, and then mixing the signal by the signal processing circuit to get the low intermediate frequency signal, we use the data acquisition card to sample the low intermediate frequency signal and save the data in PC. Finally, we can obtain the variation of the Doppler frequency shift by processing the saved data in specific software, thus research the features of the ionospheric disturbance. Several typical events of ionospheric disturbances measured by the highly integrated HF Doppler detection system are presented, including sunrise effect, sporadic E-layer and travelling ionospheric disturbances. Experimental results demonstrate that the HF Doppler detection system can run reliably and be used for the long term monitoring of the ionosphere environment.
