Abstract:
As one of the key technologies of 6G networks, Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC), by deeply integrating wireless communication and environmental perception, will strongly promote the development of emerging applications such as smart cities, intelligent transportation, and smart factories. Currently, Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS), with its powerful electromagnetic wave front control capability, can not only alleviate the problems of obstacle occlusion and signal interference in wireless communication, but also improve the detection ability and perception accuracy of radar systems. It provides technical support for the deep integration of communication and radar systems and has become one of the important enabling technologies for achieving the integration of communication and sensing. This paper focuses on the enabling application of RIS in 6G, classifies and discusses how RIS empowers wireless communication, radar perception and integrated communication and sensing systems, and how to achieve intelligence through adaptive control. It summarizes and refines the research schemes and technical routes for the implementation and development of ISAC. Finally, this paper analyzes the main bottlenecks existing in the current RIS empowerment of ISAC and looks forward to the future research directions, aiming to promote the development of future 6G networks towards higher perception accuracy, better communication quality and greater intelligence.
