Recent progresses of antennas based on spoof surface plasmon polaritons

      • Spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SSPP) is a sub-wavelength surface electromagnetic mode excited in the interface of artificial effective electromagnetic structures and traditional material. SSPP has a series of novel properties, such as short wavelength, confinable field, tunable dispersion, which can find great applications in microwave devices miniaturization, stealth materials and structures design, antennas/antenna radomes design, etc. In this paper, we introduce the recent progresses of antennas based on SSPP, including endfire antennas, multi-beam antennas and frequency scanning antennas utilizing hybrid mode coupling, phase gradient metasurface (PGM) decoupling and periodic structure decoupling, to provide technical foundation for novel antenna researches.
