New resistive film absorber in the application of packaging radiation suppression

      • In order to suppress the unintentional electromagnetic radiation in packaging systems, a novel resistive film metamaterial absorber structure with the cell size of 0.079λL × 0.079λL and the thickness of 0.057λL is designed. The resistive film absorber achieves ultra-broadband absorption by sputtering indium tin oxide films on both sides of the glass substrate and designing a patterned strong coupling structure on the top layer. Results of simulation and experiment confirm that the absorber structure has more than 90% absorptivity in the frequency range from 17 GHz to 41 GHz. In order to further investigate the electromagnetic radiation suppression capability, the absorber is applied to a model of the packaging system, and the simulation results show that radiated electric field at 3 meters is significantly reduced in the frequency range from 18−47 GHz, and the best suppression effect reaches 18 dB. All the results show that the proposed resistive film absorber is miniaturized, ultra-broadband, polarization-insensitive and angle-stable, and the good radiation suppression capability provides a new solution to the excessive radiation problem of packaging systems.
