      Prediction model of rain attenuation for the earthspace links

      • The singularity of rain attenuation predicted by ITUR model and other models developed in recent years are analyzed, which indicates  rain attenuation varies nonmonotonically with elevation. The results show that the singularity is disagree with the measured data.  By using the measured data of rain attenuation in ITUR SG3 data banks and the rainfall rate adjustment factor developed, a new rain attenuation prediction model for the earthspace links is proposed, in which the full rainfall rate distribution is utilized. Compared with ITUR model and other models, the new model  improves the accuracies of rain attenuation prediction, and has more simple prediction procedure, meanwhile, the rain attenuation predicted by the new model is monotonic with elevation variation.
