Ultrawideband monopole antenna with dual bandnotches

A simple ultrawideband (UWB) monopole antenna with dual bandnotches is presented in this paper. Embedded open stub resonator and edgesimilar stub resonator are investigated to obtain the dual bandnotched functions, respectively. The dual band notches include the IEEE 802.16 (WiMax) band (3.3～3.6 GHz), and the wireless local area network(WLAN) band (5.15~5.85 GHz). By controlling the geometrical parameters of the proposed resonators, the center frequencies and bandwidths of the notches can be controlled independently. Prototype of proposed antenna is fabricated with the standard printed circuitboard(PCB) technology. The bandnotched characteristics, return loss, radiation pattern, peak gain and efficiency of the antenna are measured. A good agreement is achieved between simulated and measured results.
