RCS measurement for scale model of stealth targets in VHF band

      • This paper describes measurement of radar cross section (RCS) for scale model of stealth targets under horizontal(H) or vertical(V) polarization transmit-receive conditions (including HH, HV, VV and VH) in the very high frequency(VHF) band. Analysis process of the RCS measurement is introduced, in which the background clutter cancellation and windowing in time-domain are adopted to reduce the measurement error in lower frequency band. Results of scale models for two stealth targets are given, which show that the RCS is on the order of squared meters, much larger than that in microwave band because of the resonance effect in the lower VHF band, and in some frequent points, the RCS of cross-polar component even stronger than co-polar component. It provides a theoretical basis for designing modern radar with the ability to detect stealth targets by adopting the stealth target resonant in frequency domain and the polarization characteristic in polarization domain.
