Fast transversal filter algorithm for multipath clutter mitigation in passive radar
The passive radar faces a significant problem in multipath clutter. The conventional recursive least square (RLS) algorithm can be efficient for multipath clutter mitigation. The RLS algorithm exhibits faster convergence rate independent on the eigenvalue diffusion of the input-signal autocorrelation matrix, and achieves better performance in terms of multipath clutter mitigation compared with the least mean square (LMS) algorithm, but the computational cost of the algorithm is higher and makes it not suited for real-time computation. The way to use the fast transversal filter algorithm to reject the multipath clutter in the passive radar was proposed. The algorithm which is more attractive for real-time processing of the multipath clutter mitigation requires the same order of computations as the LMS algorithm while having the same advantage as the RLS algorithm. The simulation and real-life data processing results confirm the effectiveness of the algorithm.
