      LF/VLF electromagnetic pulse measurement system

      • In order to measure the waveform of electromagnetic pulse accurately, we studied the formation and propagation mechanism of low-frequency/very low-frequency(LF/VLF) electromagnetic pulse, and identify the characteristics of different electromagnetic pulses, then use this as a basis to identify and confirm lightning, nuclear explosion and other phenomena. A high-resolution original waveform measurement system of electromagnetic pulse is proposed in this paper, and an effective system calibration method for the lower frequency band of LF/VLF is proposed. The continuous and accurate measurement, fast and effective discrimination and real-time data uploading can be realized through the network. In this system, an orthogonal magnetic field measurement antenna and a capacity plate antenna are used to receive signals, a low noise and high fidelity channel conditioning circuit combined with high speed data acquisition circuit is used to collect signals, a high precision timing module is used to mark time stamp for electromagnetic pulse signal, and finally the electromagnetic pulse location estimation is realized by combining the multi-point monitoring waveform. The field measurement results indicate that the system can provide high resolution and high precision for LF and VLF electromagnetic pulse waveforms. The system can also be used to locate long-distance electromagnetic pulse sources by networking, and the positioning accuracy is compar- able to the current short-range positioning methods. Through long-term operation, it is also proved that the system has the characteristics of high reliability, low distortion, accurate discrimination, strong real-time and so on.
