Abstract
Huygens source antennas hold the merits of wide beamwidth and high directivity due to their unique operational mechanism. However, it meets with a certain problems in the design and fabrication process. Based on the current development of Huygens source electrically small antennas (ESAs), several cases with high performances are introduced in this paper. In super high frequency (SHF) band, the Huygens source ESAs operating in the linear and circular polarization behaviors using planar integration technology are proposed. In ultra high frequency(UHF) band, several Huygens source ESAs with dual-polarized, pattern-reconfigurable and wideband performance characteristics are introduced, respectively. In details, the high-isolation between ports is realized in the dual-polarized design, the entire azimuthal plane coverage is achieved in the pattern-reconfigurable design, and the operational bandwidth is significantly improved in the non-Foster design, respectively. These introduced Huygens source ESA design paradigms are hoped to provide a certain new and reliable design principles and methods for ESAs with an aim to pursue high directivity, wide bandwidth and multi-functions.
