The vertical ionosphere electron density probing with high frequency surface wave radar

      • High frequency surface wave radar(HFSWR) usually receives a mass of ionospheric echoes which degrade the capability of detecting target seriously, making the ionospheric clutter suppression a hot spot in the research of HFSWR. In this paper, however, the ionospheric echoes is taken as signal sources rather than clutters, thus providing a method to extract electron density and plasma frequency regarding the vertical ionosphere. First, the pretreatment is taken in the Range-Doppler(R-D) Spectrum to extract the vertical ionospheric echoes. Then, the corresponding electron density is obtained from the mathematic relationship between echoes power and ionosphere RCS. At last, experiments is proceeded in the HFSWR station, and the effectiveness and feasibility of ionosphere remote sensing is verified in comparison with the inversion results with that of IRI-2012.
