Design of a novel dual band microstrip reflectarray
A novel dual band microstrip reflect array is presented. The reflectarray is designed for the X and Ka bands with high-frequency elements above low frequency elements, and a circular patch with a circular ring is developed as the cell element to achieve dual band performance. Two different structures of frequency selective surface(FSS), composed of the circular loop and square ring slot respectively, are designed to replace the conductor groundplane for both bands. Prototypes of these reflectarrays are simulated and analyzed. The results demonstrated that for an optimum design, the FSS-backed reflectarray has a good performance compared to its counterpart backed by a conductor groundplane, while the interact between elements of two bands could be minimized.
