ST radar in Kunming and its preliminary observation results
The main propose in this paper is to give the seasonal variation of mean wind for the first time at the height of 5~22.1 km based on Kunming (25.6°N, 103.8°E) ST radar and estimate the tropopause height using the mirror reflection method and echo power data. The results show that the main feature in the mean circulation always changes at the height of 17 km, which is that the westward and southward-flow plays an important role in summer, eastward and northward flow in other seasons below 17 km, but eastward flow dominates almost all the year and direction becomes complex in meridional above 17 km, although there has some differences from the simulation of HWM07 model. The tropopause height estimated ranging from 14 km to 17.6 km over Kunming is in good agreement with the variation characteristics of tropopause in low latitude area. So the strong convection in troposphere may be the important reason to forming this feature of mean wind.
