Performance analysis of noise frequency modulation signal with Gaussian power spectral density
Noise frequency modulation (NFM) signal with Gaussian power spectral density has the loss of signal energy and range resolution when through the band limited signal processing systems. For this problem, the expressions of NFM signal energy and range resolution which is given by the -3 dB main-lobe width of the autocorrelation function are derived in band limited circumstance. The results show the system bandwidth of NFM signal is approximately its 9 dB bandwidth, which is about equal to 4 times the effective modulation bandwidth while the signal energy loss is less than 5% and the main-lobe broadening is less than 12%. Simulation results verify the correctness of the theoretical expressions.
