Design method of new reconfigurable radar corner reflector with multiple electromagnetic characteristics

Abstract
In order to improve the flexibility of electromagnetic characteristics of radar corner reflector, the design of two new reconfigurable radar corner reflectors with multiple electromagnetic characteristics is proposed in this paper. The first one is amplitude-reconfigurable loaded with PIN diode, whose resistance changes with bias voltage, while the other one is phase-reconfigurable loaded with varactor diode, whose capacitance changes with bias voltage. Taking a square triangular reflector as an example, the amplitude reconfigurable structure is spatially modulated to change the radar cross section(RCS) by more than 30 dBsm, while the phase reconfigurable structure is temporally modulated to achieve range profile deflection by 1.875 m. The analytical results are in good agreement with full-wave simulation results, indicating the feasibility of the analysis method. The research applies space-time modulation theory to radar corner reflector to simulate target with changeable RCS and range, providing new ideas for their application.
